This is the middle movement of a larger work commissioned by Dr. Doug Browning and the Mississippi University for Women for the opening of their newly renovated performance hall. I felt it appropriate to set a text by George Elliot, who was actually Mary Ann Evans. She had to write under a male pseudonym to be published at the time.
